Psychiatric Evaluation

What is a Psychiatric Evaluation?

A psychiatric evaluation is a comprehensive assessment designed to help you understand your mental health concerns and determine the most effective path toward feeling like yourself again. During this visit, we take the time to listen to your story, explore your symptoms, review your medical and mental health history, and understand how your daily life is being affected.

What should I expect at my first appointment?

It’s completely normal to feel a bit nervous before your first visit. Your initial appointment is a supportive, conversation-based evaluation focused on understanding your concerns and developing a plan that aligns with your mental wellness goals. During this visit, you can expect:

  1. Introductions – We’ll begin by getting to know one another and creating a comfortable foundation for our work together.

  2. Discussion of Current Symptoms – You may be asked about symptoms related to mood, anxiety, sleep, attention, trauma, substance use, or other factors affecting your daily life.

  3. Review of Your History – We will go over your medical and mental health history, past treatments, family background, social stressors, and any additional information that helps us understand the full picture.

  4. Goal Setting – You may be invited to share your personal goals so we can tailor care to your needs and stay aligned throughout the process.

  5. Questions & Conversation – You’ll have time to ask questions, discuss concerns, and share anything you feel is important.

  6. Collaborative Treatment Planning – Before the visit concludes, we’ll review our impressions together. If a diagnosis is appropriate, it will be explained clearly. We’ll then outline a personalized plan, which may include therapy, medication management, lifestyle recommendations, or a combination of approaches.

At Evergreen Behavioral Health & Wellness, our goal is for your first appointment to leave you feeling heard, supported, and confident in your next steps.
